GNOME Cool Effects and why I am enjoying it

Although the machine warned me that in order to use the special effects I would need a fast graphics card. I was amazed at how beautiful the effects were specially the one where the window drags like a sheet in water. The way the windows pop up and drop down or shake when settling down after being left alone is not only wonderful but also pleasing to the eye. The user experience enhancements made in these cool effects is remarkable.

Latex is another brilliant Linux / Unix specialty hidden behind the geek facade.  Interesting introduction here {warning PDF file} talks in detail about why and how document processing improves with increase in document complexity. In the words of the author "It is very hard to write unstructured and disorganized documents" . I like the approach but feel that this might attract power users but for newbies its more of the same old school of Linux is for geeks. The purpose is not to criticize the authors. Frequent inhibitors to migrating to Ubuntu are what if something goes wrong, where will my windows go, what if I don't get everything working and topmost is I have only one partition what to do now don't wish to risk any partition magicians. A quick fix to all this rests in using Windows-based Ubuntu Installer (Wubi). If something goes wrong you don't lose windows, hard disk space and top of all your patience with Linux-derivatives.
